CHARLOTTE, NC (May 4, 2010) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced the league’s Board of Governors signed Commissioner Jim Combs to a three-year contract extension and named him league president.
“On behalf of the Board of Governors, I want to thank Jim for his hard work and dedication over the past three years,” stated Knoxville Ice Bears president and Chairman of the Board Mike Murray. “His efforts in expanding the scope of the SPHL, both on and off the ice, have resulted in new expansion opportunities for the future, along with a league-wide marketing initiative that will greatly benefit the SPHL and its member clubs.”
The SPHL, which will begin its seventh season of play in October, is comprised of eight teams:
The Augusta (GA) River Hawks, Columbus (GA) Cottonmouths, Fayetteville (NC) FireAntz, Huntsville (AL) Havoc, Knoxville (TN) Ice Bears, (Lafayette) Louisiana IceGators; (Biloxi) Mississippi Surge, and Pensacola (FL) Ice Flyers.
