Ice Notes

The largest home crowd this season turned out for the Ice Bears Thanksgiving holiday weekend game.

4,212 fans were on hand for the Louisiana Icegators first trip to Knoxville on the night after Thanksgiving, and with Christmas fast approaching Santa Claus did the honors with the ceremonial puck drop during pregame ceremonies.

Also on the holiday weekend, the Gators played under new management as Louisiana fired its general manager, Brent Sapergia. Remember Sapergia's the guy who brought international attention to the Southern Pro Hockey League a couple weeks ago, when serving as the Icegators interim coach, he littered the rink with items from the bench in a game against the Ice Flyers in Pensacola.

Team owner Danny Smith will handle GM duties indefinitely. The team recently hired former Huntsville Havoc coach John Gibson. The Icegators now sit alone in last place in the SPHL.
